What are homeopathic remedies?
A homeopathic remedy is normally a single substance usually derived from a plant, an animal, or a mineral which is then subjected to a special procedure which brings out the medicinal properties of the original substance. There are currently about 2,000 substances whose specific effects on the body have been recorded. Examples are charcoal, salt, the common daisy, iron, etc.

Are homeopathic remedies safe?
Yes, homeopathic remedies work by gently boosting the body’s natural defences and as such are very safe. There is no danger of addiction or toxicity. In fact homeopathy is used often during pregnancy, during the birthing process and after delivery for the baby as there is no risk of side effects.

How beneficial is homeopathy in treating children and the elderly?
Homeopathy is particularly successful in the treatment of children. With their high vitality, they respond quickly to remedies. The elderly too can be successfully treated within the limitations of their vitality and conditions. Those treated with homeopathy have been shown to experience an improvement in digestion, aiding with sleep problems and relieving the depression so often seen in the elderly.

If I am on medication can I use homeopathic remedies at the same time or do I need to stop my medication?
It is perfectly safe to take homeopathic remedies at the same time as you are taking medication prescribed by your doctor. However, it is always advisable to stay on the medication and only reduce it, in consultation with your doctor, when you start to feel some improvement in your condition.

What happens during the consultation?
Your first appointment will last up to one and a half hours. You will be asked detailed questions about your condition /current complaints, as well as your past medical history, emotional make-up, sleep patterns, lifestyle and your family’s medical history. All of this information helps to ensure that the best remedies are selected for your individual needs.

How fast do homeopathic remedies work?
It depends on the nature of your illness (acute or chronic, long standing or recent, etc.), your constitution, and the specific remedy given. In acute cases often relief can be felt a few hours after taking the remedy. Chronic cases take longer to respond and a full course of treatment may take many months.

What is your consultation fee?
The cost of the initial consultation is €75, with all follow up appointments charged at €60. Consultations for infants and children (including the first appointment) are charged at €60. The cost of the homeopathic remedy prescribed is included in all consultation fees.

Am I entitled to Private Health Insurance Rebates?
Homeopathic treatments with a registered homeopath are eligible for reimbursement with the following companies:

QUINN HEALTHCARE:
Reimburse a portion of the costs for up to 12 visits per year. Refer to your policy for details.

AVIVA
Under certain healthcare plans Aviva offers €30 per visit for three visits a year. Refer to your policy for details.

HSF HEALTH INSURANCE
HSF covers half the cost of treatment up to a maximum of between €130 and €780 depending on your treatment plan. Refer to your policy for details.
